Mariko did take you'r advise on travel planning, and managed to see many places, she took local bus trips and trains wherever she could, and did take the train to Madras - then toured by local bus the south of India.
All in all, I must say you'r advise was terrific, she will be returning to India as her trip there was the highlight of her life, and she has met many people whom I believe she will keep in touch with from now on.
